This is beyond classic. This was within a year of the band forming and I can only assume the Van Ryper Festival was the quintessential hippie jam band fest - note that the band isn't even well-known enough to have a big stage, but they'd already aquired a few hippie groupies to hippie dance in front of the stage. What's so odd about the hippie aspect of it is that no one in the band looks, dresses or acts like a hippie, save for Matthews' patented, herky-jerky leg-work.
